2002 Year of Outback $5 Finale Silver Proof Coin
Being the second Australian $5 Finale to feature a holographic design and a mintage of 15,000 this coin sold out extremely fast after issue back in 2002.
At the top part of the reverse design is a colour hologram - the second on an Australian coin.
Depending on the angle of view, it's almost as if the sun is rising higher because The Olgas redden in the heat of the day and late afternoon. Then moving the coin again, they darken into the outback twilight.
The struck design is an image of The Olgas as if they are being reflected in a pool of rainwater. two separate images are visible.
The hologram utilises a method pioneered and patented by Australia's CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation) known as EXELGRAM.
The optically variable properties of the image are produced by an extremely fine scale pattern of ridges covering the area of the image.
