The coin portrays a coloured Chinese dragon and a flaming pearl, a symbol of wisdom. Included in the design is the Chinese character for ‘dragon’, the inscription ‘DRAGON 2024’ and a ‘P125’ mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.
This coin is housed in a superbly illustrated presentation card featuring the words 2024 MELBOURNE MONEY EXPO ANDA SPECIAL. On the back of the card is a fold-out stand for upright display.
The dragon commands the highest respect in Chinese culture. For thousands of years it was associated with the emperor, symbolising wisdom, enlightenment, and benevolence. The dragon is also one of 12 animals featured in the ancient lunar calendar.
